* Não estava nada fácil para a dupla da McLaren acertar seus carros para o sinuoso circuito húngaro. Ayrton Senna ainda ficou em segundo, mas Alain Prost teve que contentar-se com a quinta posição atrás de Alex Caffi (Dallara-Ford) e Tierry Boutsen (Williams-Renault). Foi um daqueles dias em que Ayrton Senna saiu tarde e sisudo do circuito. "Estávamos tentando descobrir um meio de não carregar o carro nas costas amanhã", desabafou.
Senna ainda chegou a liderar por cinco voltas, mas teve que se satisfazer com o segundo lugar, atrás de Nigel Mansell (Ferrari). Depois, brincou: "Não carreguei o carro nas costas, mas tive que empurrá-lo bastante".
