Roundtree foi diagnosticado com uma forma rara de câncer de mama em 1993, e foi submetido a uma dupla mastectomia e quimioterapia.[1]

Roundtree morreu em 24 de outubro de 2023, aos 81 anos, em Los Angeles devido a um câncer de pâncreas.[2]
