A Temporada do Campeonato Mundial de Motovelocidade de 2005 é a 57ª edição promovida pela F.I.M.. A temporada se iniciou no dia 10 de Abril em Jerez e encerrou-se no dia 6 de Novembro em Valencia. Valentino Rossi acabou conquistando o título da MotoGP em 2005.

O novo milênio trouxe consigo muitas mudanças ao esporte. Depois da Honda ter dominado o final dos anos 90 e Valentino Rossi ter vencido o seu primeiro título da categoria de 500cc em 2001, o esporte renasceu enquanto MotoGP em 2002. Com o ‘rebranding’ foram introduzidas novidades e novos regulamentos técnicos. Os motores a quatro tempos regressaram à categoria principal e a cilindrada das motos da categoria principal foi aumentada para 990cc. Depois de se ter sagrado o último campeão dos 500cc, Rossi venceu quatro títulos do MotoGP consecutivos, entre 2001 e 2005.
