A família de Tennessee Wlliams era muito problemática, o que lhe serviu de inspiração para muitos de seus textos. Ele nasceu em [[Columbus]], [[Mississippi]], e sua família mudou-se para [[Clarksdale]], Mississippi quando ele estava por volta dos 3 anos de idade; a família mudou-se, novamente, desta vez para [[St. Louis]], no Missouri em [[1918]]. Seu pai, Cornelius Williams, era um vendedor de sapatos viajante, que tornou-se extremamente abusivo à medida que seus filhos cresciam.
