These were : the useof the symbolic stage and scenery, the rise of the curtainannounced by electric lights running round the prosceniumframe, the use of the whole horizon. One of the principlesupheld is that the centre of the stage is the essential point ofattraction. All the decorations are made with this view,and all the lines have direction leading to this one centralpoint. Theatre des Arts, Paris.—M. Rouche writes to say he isextending his field of action. He is organising a series of APPENDICES 257 performances at the Chatelet which will enable him toexpand his ideas on a much larger scale. The Chateletwill also have a season of the Russian Ballets on a muchmore lavish scale than hitherto, and will produce WildesSalome with an extraordinary Russian setting.
