Reuel

Reuel ou Rasuel (em hebraico: רְעוּאֵל, hebraico moderno: Rəʻuʼel tiberiano: Rəʻûʼēl, "Amigo de Deus")^[1] é um nome hebraico bíblico associado a várias figuras bíblicas e/ou religiosas.

Personagens bíblicos editar

Um sacerdote (ou, segundo Rashi e Onkelos, um chefe)^[2] de Midiã e pai de Zipora a esposa de Moisés; a mesma pessoa como Hobab e também como Jetro,^[3]^[4] possívelmente;^[5]^[6] ou talvez "Hobab" foi o seu nome próprio, "Jetro" foi seu título (isto é, "excelência"), e "Reuel" foi o nome do pai de Hobab/Jetro, ou (menos provável) o nome do clã de Jetro e Hobab.^[7]^[8] O rabino Gunther Plaut comentou sobre a confusão das explanações tradicionais:

Reuel. Em [Êxodo] 3:1, 4:18, e cap. 18 ele é chamado Jeter e Jetro, e in Num. 10:29 "Hobab, filho de Reuel, sogro de Moisés." A tradição tem tentada a harmonizar estas diferencas. Ibn Ezra, por exemplo, diz que "pai" em V. 18 em realidade significa "avô," e que Hobab é um outro nome para Jetro.
